(Minghui.org) A Benxi City resident has been sent to prison after his appeal was denied.
Mr. Dong Shuhai was first arrested on June 28, 2016, for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. The local police confiscated his Falun Gong materials, laptop, desktop computer, printer, and 4,000 yuan in cash. They also impounded his car.
Mr. Dong was later released after paying 10,000 yuan in bail. He was taken back into custody on December 4, 2017, while at work. Three days later, Judge Li Gongke of Mingshan District Court held a hearing without informing Mr. Dong's lawyer or family. He sentenced Mr. Dong to 18 months in prison.
Mr. Dong filed an appeal, but Judge Li Wenjun of Benxi City Intermediate Court ruled to uphold the original verdict.
Mr. Dong's mother tried to visit him at the Benxi City Detention Center on May 15, 2018, but she was told that her son had been sent to a prison in Shenyang City the day before.
