(Minghui.org) A 78-year-old man in Chengdu City was charged with “using a cult to undermine law enforcement,” a standard pretext used by the Chinese communist regime in its attempt to justify the persecution.
Mr. Wei Yongqing defended himself during his court hearing on April 24, 2018. He challenged prosecutor Hu Zhen to specify which law had labeled Falun Gong a cult. As a matter of fact, the People's Congress, China's law-making body, has never criminalized Falun Gong or labeled it a cult.
Mr. Wei also challenged Hu to explain how he, an elderly man, undermined law enforcement by practicing Falun Gong to improve his health. Hu had no answer, and the presiding judge soon adjourned the session.
Mr. Wei, formerly an assistant engineer at Xihua University, was arrested at home on February 3, 2017. The local police confiscated his laptop, printer, and other valuables totaling 10,000 yuan. He was released on bail the following day due to his advanced age.
