(Minghui.org) Ms. Liu Baozhen, 64, retired from the Yingtan Agricultural Bank in Jiangxi Province. She was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison by Yuehu District Court in Yingtan City in August 2016 for talking to people about Falun Gong and its persecution by the communist regime.
Because Ms. Liu did not cooperate with the authorities’ attempts to “transform” her, or force her to renounce her faith, Jiangxi Women's Prison denied her family’s visitation requests.
Her daughter had recurring dreams that Ms. Liu was crying in her living room, saying that she had been tortured. She thought that her mother had been tortured to death and that her soul had returned, so she decided to try again to see her mother in prison.
Because Jiangxi Women’s Prison had previously refused to let her see her mother, she wrote a letter of complaint to the Jiangxi Provincial Prison Administration Bureau and approached relevant authorities. Director Wang of the Prison Management Bureau met with her and agreed to approve her visit.
When Ms. Liu’s daughter finally saw her mother, she was stunned. Ms. Liu, who used to weigh 150 pounds, was less than 100 pounds and looked emaciated. She was despondent and did not look herself. She was pale, couldn't open one eye, and looked as if she was about to fall over.
The guard next to her said, “We didn't persecute you, Liu Baozhen. We didn't use torture.” The guard told Ms. Liu to repeat that line, and Ms. Liu said mechanically that there was no persecution, no torture.
According to Falun Gong practitioners previously released from Jiangxi Women's Prison, the guards tortured steadfast Falun Gong practitioners by using the “tiger bench,” hanging them up by their thumbs, depriving them of sleep, and shackling them.
Guard Hu Liang is responsible for “managing” Ms. Liu. We ask practitioners, especially those outside of China, to send more letters to prison administrators and guards. When they receive these letters, they often abuse practitioners less.
