(Minghui.org) The defense lawyer for a Beijing man has filed complaints against the police and procuratorate for arresting and indicting his client without any legal basis.
Mr. Yang Guanren, a regional president of a group of companies headquartered in Beijing, was arrested in Shenzhen on May 15, 2017 for talking to a taxi driver about Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
He has since remained at the Nanshan District Detention Center in Shenzhen.
Mr. Yang's lawyer reviewed his case file at Nanshan District Court on the morning of June 6, 2018. The lawyer met with judge Liu Fubin and expressed his determination to defend his client's innocence.
The lawyer visited Mr. Yang in the afternoon. Mr. Yang appeared to have lost weight, but was in good spirits.
The lawyer proceeded to file complaints against Nanshan District Police Department and Nanshan District Procuratorate for arresting and indicting his client without any legal basis. No law in China criminalizes Falun Gong, and the lawyer demanded his client's acquittal.
The Nanshan District People's Congress called the lawyer days later to request additional materials.
