(Minghui.org) Ms. Ding Hongjuan, 51, from Sartu District, Daqing City, was sentenced to two years in prison and fined 3,000 yuan by the Sartu District Development Zone Court on December 27, 2018. Ms. Ding has appealed to the Daqing City Intermediate Court.
Fabricated Evidence: Violation of Existing Chinese Law
Ms. Ding Hongjuan worked as a custodian in a second-hand mobile phone store in Sartu District. She was arrested after 3:00 p.m. on September 11, 2018 by Yang Yuxing, a plainclothes police officer from the Huizhan Police Department.
He took her into custody outside the Jungong Building close to the store where she worked, and then took her to the police department.
The police ransacked her home afterwards and confiscated Falun Gong books, a computer, a color inkjet printer, a small paper cutter, and other personal belongings.
Ms. Ding's family went to the police department the following day to demand her release. A person in charge of the case told them that she would be detained for three days.
When they asked why she was being held for three days, the person said that they needed to investigate, and that she would be released if nothing was found. Her family was told to sign and fingerprint the detention certificate.
On careful examination, they noticed that unsubstantiated charges had been brought against Ms. Ding. As a result, they refused to fingerprint the certificate.
Officers from the Huizhan Police Department had fabricated evidence, citing “forced labor” on her record even though the forced labor system in China has technically been abolished. They turned her case over to the Sartu District Procuratorate.
Within two weeks of her arrest, the Procuratorate issued a warrant on September 24, 2018, placing her under official arrest. A man and a woman from the Procuratorate went to the detention center around December 4, 2018 to discuss her case before it went to court.
When filing charges with the Sartu District Department Zone Court, they violated the law by citing Article 300 of the Criminal Law of “sabotaging law enforcement.”
Ms. Ding was tried by the court on December 25, 2018. She pleaded not guilty. The trial only lasted 30 minutes.
Ms. Ding was given a two year prison term on December 27, 2018. She received the verdict on December 28, and then appealed to the Daqing City Intermediate Court.
Enduring Mental and Physical Abuse
Throughout the persecution, Ms. Ding has maintained her belief. She refused to cooperate, made no confession, and signed no paperwork.
She has been held in the Daqing City Detention Center for more than four months. To protest the illegal detention and uphold her legal rights, Ms. Ding twice went on hunger strikes.
Her first hunger strike lasted for seven days, from October 1 to October 7. She became very weak and did not have the strength to talk. Her second hunger strike lasted over a month, from October 8 to November 20.
She was force-fed nearly every day, and endured tremendous physical and mental abuse.
Benefiting from Practicing Falun Gong
Before practicing Falun Gong, Ms. Ding, who had just turned 30 years old, suffered from numerous long-term illnesses. She had severe gastritis, stomach ulcers, and a duodenal ulcer.
She constantly threw up all the food she ate. She also suffered from cholecystitis, migraine, autonomic disorders, and insomnia.
If she stood for a long time, her feet felt as if being pricked by needles. She was very weak and miserable.
Her family spent money beyond their means at the time on medicines and treatments. Despite all the various medicines and treatments she tried, nothing helped.
Ms. Ding felt grateful and fortunate after she began practicing Falun Gong in January 1999. She followed the principles Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, and set a high moral standard for herself.
She recovered from all of her illnesses after beginning the practice. And although she worked hard on odd jobs to make a living, she has been content and fulfilled.
She is indifferent to fame and fortune, not moved by material gain, and refuses to profit at the expense of others. She is praised and trusted by her coworkers and managers.
