(Minghui.org) A man from Dandong City, Liaoning Province, is in a coma after being tortured in prison for refusing to renounce his faith in Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Li Quancheng, 47, was arrested at a checkpoint on June 29, 2018, after the police found Falun Gong materials in his trunk. He was sentenced to a three-year prison term and a 5,000 yuan fine by the Zhen’an District Court on March 27, 2019. His appeal was rejected by the Dandong City Intermediate Court.
Mr. Li was incarcerated at Dongling Prison in Shenyang City on August 14, 2019. Because he refused to give up Falun Gong, the prison guards ordered inmates to torture him using various means, including hanging him up by his wrists, waterboarding, depriving him of sleep, and denying him restroom use.
He has now fallen into a coma and is in critical condition as a result of the torture.
This isn't the first time that Mr. Li has been imprisoned for his faith. He was previously given a seven-year term in June 2003 and subjected to various torture methods while serving time at Dabei Prison and Panjin Prison.
