(Minghui.org) A Dandong City, Liaoning Province, woman serving time for practicing Falun Gong has been denied family visits for eight months for not giving up her faith.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a self-improvement practice that is persecuted in China.
Ms. Liu Shaojun was arrested at a friend’s place on April 24, 2018. She pleaded not guilty when she appeared in Wanghua District Court on September 18, 2018. The judge sentenced her to 2.5 years and fined her 5,000 yuan on December 12, 2019.
Ms. Liu filed an appeal with Fushun City Intermediate Court, which upheld the original sentence. The family filed a motion to reconsider the case with the intermediate court on April 22, 2019, only to have the judge dismiss it.
Ms. Liu has been denied family visits since she was admitted to Liaoning Women’s Prison in February 2019. Her family's latest and fifth attempt to visit her was on November 6, 2019, when they were turned away again.
Her family filed a complaint with Liaoning Province Petition Office, but to no avail.
Ms. Liu's loved ones are not allowed to make deposits to her commissary account or to send her clothes. She has no way to purchase daily necessities nor does she have enough clothes to stay warm. She has also been suffering from high blood pressure.
