(Minghui.org) A new chief officer named Chang (alias) was appointed to the Dongcheng Police Station in 2006. He was 37 years old and was the third director since the Chinese communist regime had launched the persecution of Falun Gong (also known as Falun Dafa) in 1999.
It is often said that a new official tends to take a few initiatives to establish himself. And Chang apparently took way more than a few initiatives. Every day he would come up with measures to crack down on Falun Gong. He was at the very forefront of the suppression.
Persecuting Practitioners
On the day he started his post, Chang arrested a practitioner who was distributing brochures about the persecution of Falun Gong. When the detention center refused to admit the practitioner, Chang spent the whole day forcing the detention center to take the practitioner.
On his second day, he arrested an elderly lady who talked to others about Falun Gong at the gate of a school to the detention center. He collected fines from all the practitioners within the police station's jurisdiction, and he gave orders to the officers to follow practitioners. Everyone at the police station was busy persecuting practitioners.
Most of those working at the police station didn’t like being pushed around like that. But, no one dared to complain publicly, as Chang was transferred to this position from the municipal police department. Officials at the department had noticed that the Dongcheng Police Station did not make an effort to persecute practitioners. They decided to transfer in someone who could change the situation.
Chang received an award six months later at the “Conference of Distinguished Police.” He enjoyed the recognition and was expecting a promotion.
Retribution
However, he was diagnosed with stomach cancer the next day, which scared and depressed him.
He recalled what Falun Gong practitioners had told him: “It's a heavenly principle that good is rewarded, and evil is met with retribution” and, “To persecute Falun Dafa is a crime.” He could not help but wonder whether he had run into retribution.
He retrieved a few confiscated Falun Gong books and DVDs from the station. He carefully read and watched them over and over again. Gradually, he started to see that what is said in the Falun Gong books made sense, and began to realize that Falun Gong is great. He also regretted what he had done to practitioners.
While waiting for surgery, Chang spent as much time as he could watching truth clarification DVDs about Falun Gong. He also talked to Falun Gong practitioners and asked them questions about things he did not understand. He came to see that Falun Dafa is the Buddha Fa and that good is rewarded while evil is punished. He made up his mind to redeem his soul by taking action.
Protecting Practitioners
Those in the police station noticed that Chang had changed. When reports about Falun Gong came in, he just ignored them. When calls came in to send out vehicles to arrest practitioners who were telling people about the persecution, he simply said, “Where do we have extra cars? Don't bother. Just let them go.”
He made phone calls to practitioners who were fined to return their money. He also used his connections to release an elderly practitioner who was sentenced to forced labor, and was out on bail for medical treatment. He did quite a few of these things.
Slowly, Chang noticed that his stomach pain was gone. He became energetic and had a good appetite. During an examination, he was surprised to learn that he no longer had stomach cancer. When he told his assistant Tang about the cure of his stomach cancer, Tang asked him, “Do you know why the two former directors of this police station were not active in the persecution?” He shook his head, and said no.
Taking Warning Seriously
Tang told him that both the mother and wife of the first director practiced Falun Gong. And the first director often told his subordinates that those who practice Falun Gong are all kind people. And he refused to engage in arresting Falun Gong practitioners.
His mother told him that he should not participate in the persecution even at the risk of losing his job. She said she would sever her relations with him if he did such bad things in violation of heavenly principles. What was strange was that he was promoted to the provincial police department, despite his resistance to the persecution.
The second director, Qin, was most capable. When he assumed the office, he was close to retirement. The municipal department wanted to take advantage of his skills and determination, and rely on him to suppress Falun Gong. However, he did not involve himself in anything related to Falun Gong.
He told others the traditional Chinese saying, “There are deities a yard above your head.” He would rather accumulate virtue for his children and grandchildren. He used his connections to retire within a year. Others envied his timing, which led to his receiving a pension that exceeded his salary before retirement. We later learned that his son and daughter-in-law were Falun Gong practitioners. They had talked him into retiring.
Chang marveled at his predecessors' being blessed by their awareness of the truth about Falun Gong, He said, “I was fortunate to have learned the facts before it was too late. My cancer was cured. Otherwise, it would have cost me my life!”
Statistics of Those Who Received Retribution
Based on incomplete statistics from July 1999 to December 2018, during the persecution of Falun Gong by the communist regime, it has been documented that over 20,784 persecutors have received retribution.
Most of these individuals were employed in the police system. At the same time, some people have repented after they were diagnosed with terminal illnesses. They stopped persecuting Falun Gong, and did all they could to help practitioners. They wanted to make up for the sins they had committed when persecuting practitioners and ended up being blessed.
