A retired doctor and his wife became targets months before the Chinese Communist Party openly launched its persecution of Falun Gong in 1999. The couple was arrested multiple times and kept under close watch in the next two decades. The doctor died five months after the police harassed him for the last time.
The Hyack Festival is one of the largest parades on the west coast. More than one hundred groups from the U.S. and Canada participate each year.
An official from the United States Department of State (DOS) recently told various religious groups that they are tightening visa vetting and may deny visas to human rights violators and those who persecute religious beliefs. Visa holders, including those already granted permanent residence (green card), may be denied entry. The official said Falun Gong practitioners can submit a list of perpetrators involved in the persecution of Falun Gong.
