(Minghui.org) It is estimated that nearly 90 million people in China suffer from depression, and I was one of them. The cause of this affliction is not completely clear. In some cases there is no known effective treatment, and the condition can go on for years. For those who have severe depression, the risk of suicide is very high.
I have a good job doing technical work at a university. I am also tall and have been told handsome, and I have a nice family.
I began to feel moody in the spring of 2006. It quickly escalated, and I became chronically depressed and felt my life was meaningless. I did not want to do anything.
I often felt agitated, short of breath, anxious, and irritable. I could not sleep and I was often awake in the middle of the night. I would go out for walks and thought about how I did not want to live.
My condition was difficult for my wife and parents. They did not know how to deal with me.
One early morning on campus I fainted while walking. Another time while driving, I collapsed and had to be taken to the emergency room.
I was treated for heart disease, but did not improve. Then I was diagnosed with severe depression, and I was told that there was no known effective treatment.
I could not sleep, night after night, and I just wanted to die. I often thought about jumping off a tall building. I just could not control my mood and behavior and often sought ways to have fun and excitement, stopping short of drugs and criminal activity.
I got angry at my coworkers and parents whenever I wanted. I treated my wife even worse. I quarreled with her, scolded her, and even lashed out at her. My wife was heartbroken and divorced me. I then became even more dispirited and self-destructive.
Learning Falun Dafa
My parents, and the mother of my good friend, all practice Falun Dafa. They approached me and suggested that I learn the practice. I was thirty-years-old and no longer wanted to live like that. So I decided to give it a try; it was my only hope.
The first few days I could not sit still or read Dafa's main text Zhuan Falun, so several families read the book to me and demonstrated the exercises. They all sent forth righteous thoughts to eliminate whatever was holding me back and hurting me.
One day while sending righteous thoughts, a whirlwind broke out inside the room, and pushed open a locked window and left. It was amazing! After that, my depression was gone! I felt like a new person and have not had a relapse of depression since, nor have I taken any medication.
After learning the practice I understood the meaning of life and followed the principles of “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance” in my daily life. I also quit smoking, drinking, and other bad habits.
My wife and I got back together and re-married. Soon afterward, she was pregnant.
I am grateful for Master Li (the founder of Falun Dafa) and Dafa's salvation. I will listen to Master and do the three things well asked of practitioners.
Protected from Danger
My mother and I went out one night in 2017 to distribute Falun Dafa calendars to people. I noticed a man started following my mother. I stopped and confronted him and told my mother to leave the area.
My mother ran. I shook off the man and joined my mother in a small courtyard, but the man continued to pursue us.
We hid behind a wheelbarrow, and I asked Master to shield us. The man was one meter away, but he did not see us. We managed to escape under Dafa's protection.
Master must have seen that I wanted to let people know about Falun Dafa and the persecution and continued to encourage me. In the spring of 2018, udumbara flowers blossomed inside and outside of my car.
So many amazing things have happened around me, making me more determined to believe in Master and Dafa. I want to be diligent and let more people know about this practice.
I am writing this article to share my experience of getting rid of depression and to let my friends know the goodness of Dafa. I am grateful, and I cherish the opportunity to practice Falun Dafa.
