(Minghui.org) Twenty-eight residents of Chengdu City, Sichuan Province were arrested on the afternoon of July 10, 2019, for not renouncing their faith in Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since July 20, 1999. The arrests, orchestrated by the Domestic Security Division in Chengdu, came ten days before the 20th year mark of the persecution.
The authorities often ramp up arrests and harassment of Falun Gong practitioners around the anniversary of the persecution. Another 13 practitioners in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province were also arrested on July 10, 2019. Some group arrests in Hebei and Shandong Province have also been reported earlier this month.
Chenghua District: Five Practitioners Arrested
Ms. Cheng Ailing, Ms. Zhu Jing, Ms. Zheng Fumei and Ms. Liu Ermei were arrested at 2 pm on July 10 while visiting Ms. Li Shuzhi's home.
Officers from Tiaodenghe Police Station and Domestic Security Division in Chenghua District ransacked Ms. Li's home and confiscated her Falun Gong books, printer, computer, DVD burner, and other materials.
The five practitioners were brought to Tiaodenghe Police Station. The police didn't provide food to them until nearly 24 hours later. All of their homes were ransacked.
Ms. Li was transferred to Pi County Detention Center on the afternoon of July 11. The other four practitioners were released by July 12,
Jinniu District: Six Practitioners Arrested
Several police officers broke into Ms. Mao Kun's home at 4 pm on July 10, 2019. Ms. Mao and her five guests, including Ms. Huang Sulan, Ms. Li Jun, Ms. Zhang Zhenhua, Ms. Cao, and one practitioner whose name remains to be investigated, were arrested.
Ms. Mao's parents in their 80s were terrified by the police raid. They became emotional and cried hard in the hallway while the police were ransacking their home.
Ms. Mao's arm was splinted and she had bruises on her face when she was taken away by the police. She was soon hospitalized.
The police didn't leave Ms. Mao's home until 1: 30 am on the next morning.
The Beimen Region: Nine Practitioners Arrested
Ms. Guo Lirong, her husband, and their seven guests were arrested around 4 pm by officers from Fuqinglu Police Station and Domestic Security Division in Chenghua District, while the group was studying Falun Gong books at her home.
The police searched all practitioners' purses and ransacked Ms. Guo's home until 10 pm.
Ms. Guo, her husband, and two other practitioners remain in custody at the time of writing, while the other five were released by 5 p.m. the next day.
The names of the seven practitioners who visited Ms. Guo remain to be investigated.
Other Arrests
Ms. Ai Chaoyu and her husband Mr. Liu Wei were arrested by officers from Shuangshuinian Police Station and Chenghua Domestic Security Division. Another practitioner, whose name remains to be investigated, was also arrested while visiting the couple.
The police extracted videos taken by the surveillance cameras near the couple's home in attempts to find out who else had visited them recently.
Ms. Chen Yixin and Ms. Zheng Tianqiong were arrested at 3: 30 pm. The police confiscated their Falun Gong books, printer, and computers. They have been sent to a brainwashing center.
Other arrested practitioners including Mr. Chen, his daughter, Mr. Du, and another practitioner in the neighborhood of Xiyingjinsha.
