(Minghui.org) Three residents of Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province were arrested and seven were harassed between June 21 and 25, 2019 for their faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
While seeking the release of the three detained practitioners, a fourth practitioner was also arrested and subjected to further detention.
Four Arrested
Ms. Dong Shuyan, Ms. Guo Shuzhen, Ms. Zhang Yuhua were arrested on the evening of June 21, 2019. The police ransacked their homes and confiscated their personal belongings. The practitioners are currently held incommunicado at Mudanjiang City No.1 Detention Center.
When the practitioners' family members went to the local police station to seek their release, the police told them that they had monitored the practitioners' cellphones and their daily activities through surveillance cameras on the streets for a long time. Their arrests were ordered after the officers saw them on camera distributing materials about Falun Gong. The police implied that it was impossible for them to release them.
Shortly after Ms. Dong's sister came back after the trip to the police station, she was harassed at home by four officers on June 25. She and her husband were also brought to the police station and interrogated. The police threatened to arrest them if they continued to seek justice for Ms. Dong.
Two days later, two Falun Gong practitioners accompanied Ms. Dong's sister and Ms. Zhang's daughter to Mudanjiang City Police Department to look for Peng Fuming, the head of Domestic Security Division, who is in charge of their cases.
The security personnel told them that they don't receive any Falun Gong practitioners. After one of the practitioners gave him a document about the U.S. government imposing stricter visa vetting of human rights violators, the security officer reported them to the police.
Four officers came after a while. They made records of Ms. Dong's sister's ID. She was crying and demanding the police to release Ms. Dong. The police said, “Do you think this is your home and you can decide what we do?”
After talking to the practitioners' family members, the police turned to the two practitioners who went together with them. Ms. Gao Xiuqing told the police her name, while the other practitioner refused to provide any personal information.
The police searched Ms. Gao's purse and found a few letters with information about Falun Gong. She and the other practitioner were dragged into the police car and brought to the local police station.
Ms. Gao was interrogated and later sent to the local detention center, while the other practitioner who refused to provide her information to the police was released.
Harassment
In addition to the four arrested practitioners, seven more were harassed and interrogated by the police on June 25, 2019, including Ms. Liu Baofeng, Ms. Zhang Cuizhi, Ms. Lin Chunzi, Ms. Zhao, Ms. Zhou, as well as Ms. Shao Yan's parents.
The aide who took care of Ms. Shao's bedridden father was brought to the police station and interrogated for three hours before being released.
The police ransacked most practitioners' homes and confiscated their computers and Falun Gong books and related materials.
The police said they had been monitoring Ms. Zhao's phone for a few years before the harassment.
Another practitioner, Ms. Chen Jinfeng, is also been monitored by the police in recent months. Ms. Chen is bedridden and unable to stand or walk after 13 years of imprisonment and torture for practicing Falun Gong. Several local practitioners and her family members are taking turns taking care of her. They are now also monitored by the police.
