(Minghui.org) My family is Mongolian and we herd cows for a living. We were very poor when I was young – my mother had epilepsy and was unable to work, while my father had various illnesses. I had three siblings; my eldest brother quit school at the age of 10 in order to support our family. My sister had a crippled leg, so she could not work either.
I learned some kung fu and was often involved in gang fights. As I got older, I became an alcoholic; my wife almost divorced me. After I began to practice Falun Gong, however, I gave up all of my bad habits and became a person with integrity. You could say that Falun Gong saved me and my family.
A Difficult Childhood
When I was seven, a drought hit our area. Everybody was starving. It was so bad that we had to eat grass to survive. For a long time, we had nothing to eat but turnips, and for a while, whenever I saw turnips I would cry.
My father herded sheep for the village. He suffered from several illnesses, but instead of being empathetic, the village Communist Party head gave my father a heavy workload to do each day. My father could not finish all the work by himself, so my older brother helped him.
To help our parents and support the family, my older brother and I both quit school at a young age. I would pick up cow manure every day to use as fuel for cooking. After cooking for my family, I would go with my brother to herd sheep. We stayed in the grasslands where there was nobody around and nothing to do. I yelled and sang loudly when I was bored; gradually. I developed a very good voice.
I often lay on the grass staring blankly at the sky, and pondered, “Donkeys were born to this world to work, so why was I born?”
A Leader of Gang Fights
I was admitted to a local singing and dancing troupe when I was 18 years old. At that time, kung fu TV dramas were very popular, so I often dreamed about becoming a kung fu hero. I wrestled with my friends, and learned some kung fu. I often beat others; as a result, many people were afraid of me.
Our local township set up a defense team, and I was appointed as the second-in-command in the team after I returned from the singing troupe. People from neighboring counties often came to our township to steal something called ephedra, a kind of herb that could be sold as medicine. To protect our grassland resources, we fought hundreds of intruders who were armed with knives and shovels. Our township head often came to me for help because I was a reckless fighter.
I usually took a one-meter-long iron stick with me, and sometimes I could fight against over a dozen people by myself. Once, we were surrounded by more than 200 people. As a result of this fight, over a dozen of us were injured and two people were sent to the emergency room. When I finally ran home that night, I noticed that my white shirt was soaked with blood, though I was not injured at all.
To stop the fight, the local public security officers opened fire on those who were still fighting, killing several of them. After that fight, the director of the local Public Security Bureau praised me for doing a good job fighting for our county. He promised in front of everyone that nobody would stop me if I fought with anyone in our county.
Since then, I became even more lawless – I rode taxis but refused to pay. No gangsters would dare to fight with me; instead, they were my servants. Having me as their “big brother,” they could always have food to eat.
Nicknamed “Northeast Wolf” for Beating People Up
Later on, I went to work for a brick factory in Beijing with a few friends. Because of our ethnic background and the fact that we were newcomers, we were always bullied by coworkers. When I could no longer stand it, I would beat them up. They brought more people the next day with shovels to fight me. I was wounded and hospitalized.
After I was discharged from the hospital, I took revenge on each one of them. They all tried to run away from me, but none of them could run faster than me. Thus I dominated the gang, and later earned the name of "Northeast Wolf."
A Leg Injury Causes Me to Become Disabled
In the second year, the factory manager had me take over the management of the factory, supervising a total of 80 workers.
My right leg was rolled into a machine in an accident. My coworkers cut the conveyor belt with shovels to get me out. I was safe, but my right leg was shorter than my left, and my foot was flipped over.
My coworkers took me to different hospitals but nobody would admit me. Although I was in a coma, I could hear people talking. I felt very comfortable, as if my body was light and weightless. Finally, one hospital decided to admit me. All the savings I had was used for my medical costs, and I returned home penniless with one crippled leg.
I did different odd jobs to make ends meet until the age of 30 when I participated in a singing competition and won first place. After that, I became a singer again.
Learning about Falun Gong
In 1999, the persecution of Falun Gong was broadcast all over the country, but my Mongolian vocal teachers all said that Falun Gong was good. They told me that more than 100 million people practiced Falun Gong, and Falun Gong practitioners came from all walks of life, including university students and government officials.
I thought, "Falun Gong must be amazing!”
On a business trip to Beijing in 2001, I witnessed dozens of police cars rush onto Tiananmen Square, and officers in both plainclothes and uniforms charging at people who had opened some banners. They dragged them, including the elderly and women, into police vehicles. The officers also pushed some of them down, stomped on them, grabbed them by their hair, and kicked them. I was very angry to see how violent the police were. Why would they attack those people, especially the women and elderly, like that? I thought they were unreasonable.
I was married the following year. My wife's sister-in-law practiced Falun Gong and was arrested that year. We went to visit my wife’s brother and sister-in-law when she was released in 2004. She was a nice person who treated us very kindly. When she brewed tea for us, she began to talk about Falun Gong. At that time, I only knew that Falun Gong was very good, but I was ignorant of the concept of "cultivation."
On another business trip, I shared a hotel room with the director of our performing arts troupe. Someone inserted a booklet with a DVD into our hotel room through the door every day. So we watched the DVD and learned more details about Falun Gong.
Falun Gong Saves Me and My Family
Because I often went on trips to various places to perform, I started to drink wine with a high alcohol content. I drank a lot – I could down thirteen bowls of liquor at a time. My wife often argued with me because of my drinking habit.
My wife’s father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was in severe pain. So my wife's family got Dafa books and Master’s portraits from her sister-in-law in an attempt to improve his health. Soon after that, my wife and her sister both began to practice Falun Gong. After reading Falun Gong books, my father-in-law's pain stopped as well.
At the moment of his passing, the family sat around him and kept repeating, "Falun Dafa is good; Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good." After he stopped breathing, he suddenly sat up and said, "I am very comfortable now. I can hear many Buddhist and Taoist gods reading the Buddha scriptures." After that, he passed away.
A few years later, with my wife's help, I also began to practice Falun Gong. I immediately quit smoking and drinking. I brought the recordings of Falun Gong lectures with me when I went out of town and learned to meditate. I've transformed into a different person since then.
I gave up all my previous bad habits, becoming a person who is happy and kind. I tell my friends stories about Buddhism and Falun Gong in Mongolian. Most of my listeners found it easier to understand the facts of Falun Gong because they mainly watched Mongolian TV programs, and were not poisoned by the Chinese Communist Party's propaganda. They liked my stories, and some were curious about where I learned all the stories.
I began to learn Chinese characters, and now I am able to read the Chinese version of Zhuan Falun.
The “Northeast Wolf” No More
The people in my hometown talk about me when they see me singing on TV. Everyone is amazed, and they say, “This person has completely changed, and it's a miracle!”
I have gone from someone lying on the grass not knowing the meaning of life, into a person with hope and dignity. The "Northeast Wolf," who was often involved in gang fights has changed into a good person and a considerate husband.
I hope everyone can learn about the miracles that happened to my family, and cherish Falun Gong as we do!
