(Minghui.org) A Beijing woman, nearly 80 years old, was arrested in August 2019 for not renouncing her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Lu Xiuling's latest arrest came only one year after she was sentenced to one year in prison for talking to people about Falun Gong on the street. She was first held at Daxing Detention Center following her arrest in December 2017, and then put under house arrest because of her advanced age after she was convicted.
The police have kept her family in the dark of her current detention location and case status.
The police department in Daxing District in Beijing has recruited many young officers in recent years. While many senior officers have shunned the persecution after understanding the illegality of it, their younger colleagues have taken an active role in it in order to gain promotions or receive more bonuses. As a result, the persecution in the district has remained severe.
In addition to Ms. Lu, two other Daxing residents were also confirmed to have been arrested for their faith in recent months.
Ms. Wang Lianqun, in her 70s, was arrested on June 14, 2018 while talking to people about Falun Gong. She was sentenced to two years in prison in July 2019 by Daxing District Court and has been sent to Daxing District Women's Correctional Center.
Ms. Ma Xiuying, 82, was sentenced to one year in prison with a 2,000 yuan fine by Daxing District Court on April 18, 2019. After the local Daxing Detention Center refused to accept her because of her physical condition, the police sent her home on the same day and asked her to wait for further notice.
