(Minghui.org) A woman's meeting with her lawyer was cut short when she told him how she was beaten by inmates while serving eight and half years for not renouncing her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhang Wei, a Donggang City, Liaoning Province resident, has been denied family visits by Liaoning Province Women's Prison for five months. Her husband hired a lawyer and they went to the prison on August 5, 2019.
The prison guards asked the lawyer many questions, including whether he was a Communist Party member, what are his son and wife’s professions, etc, before allowing him to meet with his client. Ms. Zhang's husband was still not allowed to see her.
Six guards stood by Ms. Zhang during the visit. She briefly told the lawyer that she was beaten by seven inmates around 3 a.m. on March 30, 2019, before the guards terminated the meeting and pushed the lawyer out of the visitation room.
According to an insider, the torture that Ms. Zhang has been subjected to is beyond comprehension and couldn’t be tolerated by most people.
“It was simply scary. She is so miserable.” The insider urged Ms. Zhang’s family to find a way to get her out of the prison soon, or she would be beaten to death there.
Ms. Zhang was arrested in April 2015 and sentenced to 8.5 years in prison by Donggang City Court on December 28, 2015. She was taken to Liaoning Women’s Prison, a place notorious for its brutality and high torture-death toll of Falun Gong practitioners.
Since 2017, the guards took away Ms. Zhang’s comforter and warm clothes, subjecting her to low temperatures in one of the coldest provinces in China. They often beat and verbally abused her, while restricting her the use of daily necessities and providing her with only one meal each day.
When Ms. Zhang’s husband and mother visited her at the prison on August 15, 2018, she showed the scars and bruises on her arms and shoulders from the torture. Just as she asked her husband to file a complaint against Liu Li, the inmate who caused most of her injuries, a guard hung up the phone and ended the meeting.
To recover from the injuries, Ms. Zhang began to do the Falun Gong exercises in the prison, but has been denied family visits since April 2019 as retaliation by the authorities.
Her husband has frequented the local procuratorate, prison administration office, justice department, and prison petition office in the past few months to seek justice for her, but to no avail.
It’s reported that despite the lawyer’s intervention, Ms. Zhang is still subjected to daily abuses in the prison.
