(Minghui.org) Mr. Liu Qing’s latest arrest on August 15, 2019 came after he wandered about for four years, hiding from the police to avoid being persecuted for his faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
The Fuyu City, Jilin Province resident appeared in Fuyu Court on August 27. He represented himself and defended his own innocence. He argued that no law in China has ever criminalized Falun Gong, and the persecution has never had any legal basis.
He testified that he began to practice Falun Gong while in his twenties and enjoyed a dramatic turnaround in his health. He also said that his temper improved due to the practice, and his family became more harmonious.
The prosecutor constantly interrupted him and didn’t allow him to finish his defense.
According to Mr. Liu’s wife and uncle who attended the hearing, the bailiffs kept his hands cuffed behind his back the entire time. He also had a feeding tube in his nose, after being force fed in the detention center.
Mr. Liu’s wife asked to testify during the hearing but was blocked by more than ten officers, who pushed her back down into her seat.
Mr. Liu had been previously arrested on July 16, 2015 and soon developed serious symptoms after eleven days of detention. The police continued to harass him after he was released on bail, forcing him to live away from home to avoid the persecution.
He is currently being held at Fuyu City Detention Center.
