(Minghui.org) Two Wuhan City, Hubei Province residents were arrested and face trial again, months after they finished serving years in prison for their faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Qian Youyun and Ms. Sun Zuying were arrested on April 23, 2019 while talking to people about Falun Gong at Jiangxia District Stadium. They have been held at Dongxihu No.1 Women’s Detention Center since.
After Hongshan District Procuratorate forwarded their cases to Hongshan District Court, Gong Yongbo, the presiding judge questioned how their lawyers dared to enter a not guilty plea for Falun Gong practitioners.
When the practitioners’ families called judge Gong, he rejected their requests to defend their loved ones in court.
The practitioners’ families later contacted the president of the court, who hung up the phone as soon as he found out it was about Falun Gong cases.
It’s reported that all Falun Gong cases in Wuhan have been predetermined by Wuhan City Intermediate Court. Four lower courts, including Hongshan Court, Wuchang Court, Hanyang Court and Xinzhou Court, hold show trials and deliver the pre-determined verdicts.
The two women's court date was initially set for December 11, 2019. Due to conflict in the lawyer’s schedule, the court has agreed to postpone the hearing to a later date.
Ms. Qian, 54, used to work at Grain Bureau of Jiangxia District. She began to practice Falun Gong in May 1998 and many of her ailments soon disappeared. She was sentenced to four years for practicing Falun Gong in 2014 and released on November 6, 2018.
Ms. Sun, 52, also credits Falun Gong for improving her health. She was given one and a half years of forced labor in 2001 and five years in prison in 2013 for passing out informational materials about Falun Gong. She was released in June 2018.
