(Minghui.org) An 82-year-old woman in Beijing was sentenced to six months for practicing Falun Gong, an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Given her advanced age, Ms. Liu Shenghui was ordered to serve her time outside of prison.
Ms. Liu was arrested in 2018 for handing out informational materials about Falun Gong. The police ransacked her and her daughter’s homes, leaving her daughter and son-in-law under tremendous pressure.
The police submitted the Falun Gong teachings that Ms. Liu had copied by hand as prosecution evidence against her. There were more than 100 pages, and they counted each one as one flyer. Ms. Liu was sentenced in 2019, although the exact timing remains to be investigated.
This wasn’t the first time that Ms. Liu has been targeted for her faith. She was reported for distributing Falun Gong information in April 2016. When she refused to give the police her name, they released her and followed her home. They ransacked her residence and took her back into custody.
She was later given two years and ordered to serve that sentence outside of prison, also.
