The police interrogated the couple at Jieshan Town Police Station. Mr. Zhao was then sent to Dongping County Detention Center. Ms. Zheng was released on bail due to her physical condition.
The Dongping County Procuratorate forwarded their cases to Feicheng City Procuratorate on April 18, 2019.
The Feicheng City Court tried the couple on June 19, 2019, and sentenced them on July 24. Mr. Zhao got two years and was fined 10,000 yuan. Ms. Zheng was sentenced to three and a half years with a 20,000 yuan fine. She appealed to Taian City Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold her prison sentence.
