(Minghui.org) While many people are getting ready for the 2020 Chinese New Year celebration, an 84-year-old mother is crying her heart out over her daughter.
Ms. Xiong Wenfeng, a 51-year-old resident of Wuhan City, Hubei Province, has been detained for more than eight months and denied family visits because of practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
A group of officers from Huangpipo District Domestic Security Division and Liuzhijie Police Station broke into Ms. Xiong’s home around 9 p.m. on April 26, 2019. Two officers held her arms and handcuffed her, while the others searched her home and confiscated her Falun Gong books and other personal belongings.
Her family later learned that she was recorded while talking to people about Falun Gong and the police arrested her after recognizing her in the video.
Ms. Xiong has been held at Erzhigou Detention Center since her arrest. The police are preparing to submit her case to the procuratorate.
Because of practicing Falun Gong and raising awareness about the persecution, Ms. Xiong has been repeatedly arrested and harassed in the past 20 years.
In June 2018, the police directly went to the mall she worked at and took pictures of her in front of her manager and customers. Fearing being implicated, her manager fired her. Ms. Xiong was forced to live away from home in late 2018 to avoid the harassment.
Ms. Xiong’s husband, a former official in the village they live at, was implicated. He was stripped of his right to be put on the ballot when he was up for reelection.
Ms. Xiong's mother has cried so often after her arrest that the elderly woman has been experiencing eye problems.
