(Minghui.org) A Shenyang City, Liaoning Province resident was arrested during a police sweep a year ago and was given a heavy term for his faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
At around 8:30 p.m. on July 10, 2019, a group of officers broke into the home of Mr. Tian Baochang and arrested him. Many of his personal belongings were confiscated. He was held at the Heping District Detention Center. Another twelve practitioners were arrested the same day.
Mr. Tian was tried by the Heping District Court on November 26, 2019. He dismissed the court-appointed lawyer who had been instructed to enter a guilty plea for him, and acted as his own lawyer. He detailed the positive changes that he has experienced, both physically and spiritually, after taking up Falun Gong. He denied being guilty of practicing his faith or speaking up for it.
The judge later sentenced him to 7.5 years with 50,000 yuan fine. He has been sent to the Jinzhou Prison.
