(Minghui.org) A 66-year-old Beijing resident was sentenced to one year with a 1,000-yuan fine for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Li Yuhua was arrested on May 22, 2019 for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was first tried by the Fengtai Court on December 10, 2019 and the court session was quickly adjourned as she coughed violently, due to a recurrence of tuberculosis following her arrest.
The Fengtai Court held a second hearing on August 28, 2020. She acted as her own lawyer, and the judge stopped her when she hadn't finished reading one third of her prepared defense script. He asked for a hard copy to read it himself later on.
Ms. Li received the verdict on September 29. The judge gave her ten days to appeal.
