(Minghui.org) An 85-year-old woman in Jinan City, Shandong Province is facing prosecution for distributing information about her faith, Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) since 1999. Ms. Chen Lanzhi's husband passed away just two months ago due to police harassment.
On February 20, 2020, Ms. Chen gave a young man a booklet about the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong and its cover-up of the coronavirus outbreak. The young man said to her, “How dare you distribute such things on the street?” He then reported her to the police.
Several officers soon came and brought Ms. Chen to the police Station. They asked her where she got the materials, but she refused to answer. The officers then ransacked her home and confiscated many of her Falun Gong books and magazines, three radios and her contact book.
Ms. Chen's husband was terrified by the police raid and he fell ill soon after. After being bedridden for a few months, he passed away around September 2020.
A police officer called Ms. Chen’s daughter around June and asked her to tell Ms. Chen to go to the Zhangqiu Court. She refused to go.
In September, two staff members of the Zhangqiu Procuratorate found Ms. Chen and ordered her to go to the procuratorate to sign a document. When she refused to comply, those people called her daughter, who also refused to participate in the persecution of her mother.
