(Minghui.org) A small business owner who has been held incommunicado for over a year was recently sentenced to one year and six months with a 5,000-yuan fine for her faith in Falun Gong. Ms. Kan Guangying's family has been denied visits with her. More details of her sentence remain to be investigated.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Kan, 54, of Ankang City, Shaanxi Province, was arrested on September 22, 2019, at her own store after being reported for talking to a taxi driver about Falun Gong.
Days before Ms. Kan’s arrest, her mother-in-law took a fall and broke her arms. Ms. Kan’s husband, who has a disability in his leg, struggles to take care of his mother and manage their family-owned business.
Ms. Kan is being detained at the Koujiagou Detention Center and denied family visits. She was wearing a summer dress when she was arrested in September last year. Though the weather got colder, the detention center refused to accept the winter clothes her family sent her.
Ms. Kan took up Falun Gong in 1997. Within two months of practice, her arthritis, arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat), lumbar disc herniation, and sequelae of meningitis (inflammation of the fluid and membranes surrounding one’s brain and spinal cord) were all cured. Living by Falun Gong’s principles of “Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance,” she became a better wife, mother, and daughter-in-law at home and an understanding manager at work.
For refusing to renounce her faith, however, communist officials ransacked her home seven times and detained her three times, and she served two years of forced labor and four years in prison.
