(Minghui.org) A 70-year-old Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, resident was sent to the Zhejiang Province Women’s Prison on November 6, 2020, to serve a three-year term for her faith in Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.
Ms. Ying Guofang was seized by the police on April 18, 2019, in a group arrest of more than 20 Falun Gong practitioners. She suffered dangerously high blood pressure and blood sugar at Ningbo City Detention Center. Her family requested bail for her, but the police rejected their requests and told them that it's impossible to release her before the communist regime's 70th National Day on October 1, unless she had only one breath left.
Ms. Ying was tried through a video conference by the Zhenhai District Court on July 3, 2020. She was later sentenced to three years with a 6,000-yuan fine.
Prior to her latest prison term, Ms. Ying was arrested eight times between July 1999 and September 2003. Her home was ransacked three times. She was detained in a detention center for a month and twice sent to a brainwashing center. She suffered a bone fracture after being hit in the back by an officer on September 15, 2003, before being sent to the brainwashing center.
Ms. Ying was arrested again on August 30, 2007, and detained at the Ningbo City Detention Center.
She was sent to a brainwashing center two more times in August 2016 and between August 13 and 26, 2017.
