(Minghui.org) A family of three in Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province were sentenced to prison in September 2020 for their shared faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.
Mr. Zhou Shaoshan, his wife Ms. Gao Jiping, and their daughter Ms. Zhou Na were seized by the police in a group arrest on September 7, 2019. It was reported that the Public Security Bureau of Shanxi Province and the Taiyuan City Police Department were behind the arrests, with specific tasks carried out by officers from the Yingze Police Station, Wanbolin Police Station, and Jiancaoping Police Station.
Mr. Zhou, a retiree of the Shanxi Province Association for Science and Technology in his 60s, was detained at the Taiyuan City No.1 Detention Center.
Ms. Gao, also in her 60s, was released on bail due to a health condition after ten days of detention at the Taiyuan City No.4 Detention Center.
Their daughter, Ms. Zhou, has been held at Taiyuan City No.4 Detention Center since.
The detention centers have been blocking the father and daughter’s lawyers from visiting them. After the lawyers’ repeated requests, Mr. Zhou’s lawyer finally met with him in the detention center, but Ms. Zhou’s lawyer was denied a meeting with her.
The Wanbolin District Procuratorate indicted the three practitioners on January 7, 2020, and moved their cases to the Wanbolin District Court on January 10.
The practitioners were convicted around September 23, 2020: both Mr. Zhou and Ms. Gao were sentenced to three years with a 5,000-yuan fine. Ms. Zhou was given two years and fined 3,000 yuan.
