(Minghui.org) A Tianjin resident was recently sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Feng Junling was arrested in a police sweep with another 36 local Falun Gong practitioners on December 28, 2017. The police monitored the practitioners for months before conducting the sweep. The majority of the practitioners were arrested at their homes and had their homes ransacked. Some had their cash and debit cards confiscated.
When the practitioners refused to open the door, the officers broke into their homes or opened the door with a master key. In some cases, the police shut off the practitioners’ electricity and arrested them when they came out to investigate the situation.
At the time of writing, ten practitioners have been sentenced to prison, with the longest term of eleven years given to dentist Mr. Li Yongquan around November 2019.
It’s reported that the police suspected Ms. Feng of selling cellphone SIM cards to local practitioners for them to make phone calls to the public about the persecution of Falun Gong. Although she soon closed her cellphone store in order to help take care of her grandson, the police still arrested her. She was tried in 2018, and the prosecutor recommended a ten-year sentence. After two years of deliberation, the judge announced Ms. Feng’s 3.5-year sentence around September 2020.
