(Minghui.org) A 73-year-old woman in Chongqing was recently sentenced to 5.5 years in prison and fined 15,000 yuan for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhu Dazhen was arrested by eight police officers at her home on April 24, 2020. The police ransacked her place and confiscated her computer, Falun Gong books and many other materials.
Due a health condition, Ms. Zhu was released on bail on May 20. She was tried by the Kaizhou District Court on July 17 and given six months of house arrest by the judge on July 23.
In October, the police took Ms. Zhu to the hospital for another physical checkup. The judge held another hearing before sentencing her to five and a half years. She is now serving time at home.
Ms. Zhu began practicing Falun Gong in 1998. Because of upholding her faith after the persecution began in 1999, she has been repeatedly arrested over the past two decades and incarcerated three times for a total of seven years.
