(Minghui.org) A 70-year-old woman is facing trial for speaking out about her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Hao Guangju, a Jinan City, Shandong Province resident, distributed information about Falun Gong in her apartment building during the coronavirus lockdown, only to be reported by a neighbor. The police found her address after going through surveillance video.
On April 27, 2020, a group of officers broke into Ms. Hao’s home and arrested her. Her computer, printer, Falun Gong books and some copy paper were confiscated. One officer had her sign the confiscation list and she was released on bail on the same day.
On October 6, Ms. Hao was asked to go to the police station. She went there and was asked to sign the six-page confiscation list again. She signed it and wrote at the end, “The Constitution protects citizens’ freedom of belief and I didn’t violate any law.”
About a week later, two men who identified themselves as staff members from the procuratorate and court called Ms. Hao’s husband on two consecutive days and asked her to go to the procuratorate and court. Her husband became very angry at the authorities' persecution of his wife and hung up the phone both times.
