(Minghui.org) Authorities in Shanwei City, Guangdong Province, including officials from town governments and residential committees, have been showing up at local Falun Gong practitioners' homes uninvited since October this year. They harassed and threatened practitioners and their families one after another.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
These officials pretended to care about the practitioners during their visits, attempting to lure them into signing statements to renounce Falun Gong. When the practitioners refused to comply, the officials turned to their spouses and demanded that they sign the statements on the practitioners’ behalf. These spouses resisted as well and questioned why the officials were harassing them. The officials then used the practitioners' children or grandchildren as leverage to threaten them.
Rather than giving up their faith, the practitioners used these opportunities to tell the officials that the persecution of Falun Gong has no legal basis and urged them to stop participating in the persecution. Many practitioners also shared their own stories of how they benefited physically and mentally from practicing Falun Gong. One practitioner's cancer was cured through the practice.
Some officials called the practitioners and told them to visit their offices to sign the statements to renounce Falun Gong. The practitioners all refused to do it.
The practitioners known to have been harassed include Luo Dimei, Peng Suhua, Peng Weixiang, Peng Neimei, Zhang Yan, Peng Xueling, Peng Songmei, Chen Yuan, Peng Xuehua, Peng Furang, Peng Qiuyun, Peng Xiaohong, and Peng Shujing.
