(Minghui.org) A woman from Xiaogan City, Hubei Province, was recently sentenced to six years for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Fang Zongju, 59, was arrested on June 1, 2020, for talking to people about Falun Gong. Her home was also ransacked.
Ms. Fang was tried in the Anlu City Court on November 17, 2020. Days later she was sentenced to six years and fined an unknown amount.
Ms. Fang’s latest arrest came just a year after she finished serving two years for her faith. She was previously arrested on August 11, 2017, for talking to people about Falun Gong while visiting her daughter in Laohekou City in the same province. The police sprayed pepper water in her face at the police station. She had burning pain on her face and arms and couldn’t speak. Her daughter’s home was ransacked.
The police took Ms. Fang to the Laohekou City No.1 Detention Center that evening. They initially told her family that she would be released in ten days. But when her family went to the detention center to pick her up, she had already been transferred to Zaoyang, another city about 80 miles away.
Ms. Fang stood trial on February 27, 2018, in the Laohekou City Court and was sentenced to two years on December 18, 2018. She was released from the Hubei Province Women’s Prison on August 10, 2019.
