(Minghui.org) After several years of incommunicado detention, two Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province residents were sentenced to prison for their faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Luo Guiyou, 48, was arrested on September 21, 2017 for raising awareness about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was detained at the Yuexiu District Detention Center and denied any contact with her family. After the police submitted her case to the Haizhu District Procuratorate in March 2018, her family received no updates about her case. Not until December 22, 2020, did they find out that Ms. Luo has been sentenced to a 4.5 year prison term by the Haizhu District Court on December 26, 2019.
Another practitioner, Ms. Zhou Changlan, 61, was arrested on September 16, 2018 for removing propaganda posters against Falun Gong. She was detained at the Baiyun District Detention Center. Her family also learned on December 22, 2020 that she had been sentenced to a three year prison term and fined 5,000 yuan by the Liwan District Court on an unknown date.
It was reported that Ms. Zhou appealed the verdict, but the Guangzhou City Intermediate Court ruled to uphold her sentence on April 22, 2020.
Her family is still being kept in the dark regarding her whereabouts. They suspect that she may have already been imprisoned at the Guangdong Province Women’s Prison.
