(Minghui.org) A Qingdao City, Shandong Province resident was recently sentenced to three years and two months for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Yang Guifang, in her 70s, was arrested on July 30, 2020 for talking to people about Falun Gong. The police ransacked her home and confiscated her Falun Gong books. At the police station, Ms. Yang refused to cooperate with the police’s interrogation, but clarified the facts about Falun Gong and urged the police not to participate in the persecution. She was later sent to the Pudong Detention Center.
Ms. Yang appeared in the Jimo Court on December 3, 2020. The lawyer appointed by the court attempted to make her renounce Falun Gong by promising to release her. She refused to comply and was sentenced to prison with a 3,000-yuan fine on December 16.
This isn’t the first time that Ms. Yang has been targeted for her faith.
She was given 1.5 years at Wangcun Forced Labor Camp in 2005 and sentenced to three years in the Jinan Women’s Prison in late 2011, where she was brutally tortured for upholding her faith.
After she was released on November 20, 2014, her husband often lost his temper at her and blamed her for “causing trouble” for the family. Ms. Yang didn’t fight back, but tried her best to take care of the family. Yet the police still came to her home frequently to harass Ms. Yang. The tremendous stress caused her husband to become addicted to alcohol and he fell ill soon afterwards.
Even after her husband had become bedridden after surgery in 2019, the police still arranged people to come to their home to monitor Ms. Yang. Her husband later passed away in late 2019.
