(Minghui.org) A 68-year-old woman in Yueyang City, Hunan Province has been imprisoned to serve a one-year term for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Huang Juxiu was arrested and had her home ransacked on March 16, 2020. She was put on criminal detention on March 18 and released on bail on April 21. The Lou District Procuratorate approved her arrest on June 2.
On July 7, she was taken back into custody and sent to the Yueyang Psychiatric Rehabilitation Hospital.
The Pingjiang County Procuratorate indicted her on August 1. She was tried by the Pingjiang Court on September 10 in the Yueyang City No.2 Detention Center. The authorities didn’t inform her family or her lawyer of her hearing.
Ms. Huang entered a not guilty plea for herself. She argued that she didn’t commit any crime in distributing Falun Gong related information, but merely hoped to inform the public of the persecution of Falun Gong.
The judge sentenced her to one year in prison with a 3,000 yuan fine on September 29. She was sent to the Hunan Province Women’s Prison in October.
Prior to her latest persecution, Ms. Huang had been arrested ten more times for her faith in Falun Gong. She served four years in prison and was subjected to relentless torture. She was also held in a brainwashing center and administrated with unknown drugs. Her workplace once suspended her salary for nine years.
