(Minghui.org) After being recorded by surveillance cameras distributing informational materials about Falun Gong, a Beijing resident was arrested on November 22, 2020, and has been detained in the Haidian Detention Center ever since.
The police ransacked Ms. Zhao Xiuhuan’s home and confiscated her Falun Gong books, media player, and a painting that had “Falun Dafa is good” on it.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhao, 65, used to suffer many ailments, such as Hepatitis B and rhinitis before she took up Falun Gong. She regained her health shortly after learning the practice.
After the onset of the persecution, the Beijing police arrested her around the 2000 Chinese New Year and detained her for 40 days, in an attempt to prevent her from going to Tiananmen Square to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. She was arrested again months later, around July 20, 2000, and detained for another ten days.
Ms. Zhao was sentenced to seven years after she was arrested in 2002 for making informational materials about Falun Gong.
One young prison guard, Chen Jing, forced Ms. Zhao to do the splits, causing her to almost suffocate and faint. Chen also forced her to stand for hours without moving and ordered two inmates to sit on her after forcing her to bend over 90 degrees. The abuse injured her legs and she had blood in her urine.

Ms. Zhao was arrested one more time, on July 28, 2015, for filing a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin, the former head of the communist regime who ordered the persecution. The police ransacked her home and confiscated 80 booklets about Falun Gong, one computer, and two printers. She was detained for nearly three months.
