(Minghui.org) A urologist serving a four-year term for his faith in Falun Gong is set to be released on June 27, 2020.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.
Mr. Kong Qingchun, a resident of Dalian City, Liaoning Province, was arrested on June 28, 2016 and sentenced to four years by the Ganjingzi Court in April 2017. He was admitted to Dongling Prison on August 17, 2017 after his appeal was rejected.
Because he refused to renounce Falun Gong, the prison guards beat Mr. Kong and forced him to do unpaid labor. His shoulder was fractured, and four of his front lower teeth were loosened by torture.
Warden Liu Jian and chief guard Yang Ming directed inmate Yan Bing to monitor Mr. Kong. Yan deprived Mr. Kong of sleep and stopped him from doing the Falun Gong exercises. After Mr. Kong went on a hunger strike, Yan beat him with a rubber baton. (Rubber batons minimize visible wounds but inflict severe pain and internal injuries.)
While seeking justice for Mr. Kong, his family was given the runaround between various judicial and law-enforcement agencies. They were unable to obtain a copy of his verdict to file a motion to have his case reconsidered.
