(Minghui.org) A 71-year-old resident of Fushun City, Liaoning Province was sentenced to three years and fined 10,000 yuan for raising awareness about her faith in Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.
Ms. Yu Shourong was arrested on June 25, 2019 while talking to people about Falun Gong near a middle school. She has been held at Nangou Detention Center since.
Ms. Yu appeared in Wanghua District Court on December 27, 2019. She was charged with “undermining law enforcement with a cult organization,” a standard pretext used to criminalize Falun Gong. The prosecution evidence against her included the informational materials about Falun Gong that she gave out.
Prior to her latest sentencing, Ms. Yu has been targeted several times for her faith. She was given two three-year terms of forced labor in the early years of the persecution and then sentenced to four years in prison in 2014.
