(Minghui.org) The wife of a 74-year-old man sentenced to 8.5 years for practicing Falun Gong was given seven days of administrative detention and fined 300 yuan for seeking justice for him.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Han Junde, a Baoding City, Hebei Province resident, was arrested on August 30, 2019 for making keepsakes with information about Falun Gong for distribution. He was sentenced to prison with a 10,000-yuan fine by Gaoyang County Court on February 26, 2020.
After Mr. Han appealed the verdict to Baoding City Intermediate Court, his wife wrote an affidavit of support, which she mailed to the central and provincial government agencies with facts about Falun Gong and how the authorities in Baoding had violated the law in persecuting her husband. She demanded that Mr. Han be released immediately.
As a result of mailing the letters, she was summoned by officers from Lianchi District Police Department and accused of “promoting Falun Gong and interfering with the government’s work.” She was given seven days of administrative detention, which was then waived due to the coronavirus pandemic.
