(Minghui.org) A 78-year-old woman in Xinjin County, Sichuan Province, was tried in the Xinjin County Court on June 5, 2020, for practicing her faith in Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Peng Shuhua attended the virtual hearing from the Shuangliu District Detention Center, where she has been held since her arrest on August 13, 2019, for talking to people about Falun Gong.
Her lawyer entered a not guilty plea on her behalf and argued that there is no law in China that says practicing Falun Gong is a crime. Ms. Peng also testified in her own defense and said she didn’t violate any law by talking to people about her faith.
Ms. Peng was denied family visits for three months after her arrest.
In the past, she has been repeatedly arrested and detained for raising awareness about the persecution of Falun Gong.
