(Minghui.org) An 85-year-old man in Yongning County, Ningxia Province was traumatized after being arrested last year for his faith in Falun Gong. He became depressed and has lost his appetite. He took a fall in May 2020 and his health has been declining since then.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Ren Chuntian, a retired employee of Yongning County Agricultural Bank, and his wife, Ms. Chen Shuhui, a retired pharmaceutical company employee, were arrested on September 19, 2019 in a police sweep. It’s reported that a large number of police officers were dispatched to Yongning County where they arrested at least 13 local Falun Gong practitioners.
Mr. Ren, 85, and Ms. Chen, 80, had their home ransacked. They were interrogated at the local police station and then released on bail. The couple's loved ones are now extremely worried about Mr. Ren’s physical health and his depression.
The couple has been targeted before for their faith. They were both arrested on February 4, 2002. Mr. Ren was given three years of forced labor after two months of detention. Ms. Chen was given two years of forced labor after three days of detention.
In August 2016, the police broke into Mr. Ren’s home and confiscated his computer, Falun Gong books, and a photo of the founder of Falun Gong.
In March 2018, the police returned and attempted to force the couple to renounce their faith. They refused to comply.
