(Minghui.org) For refusing to give up her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999, a woman in Kunming City, Yunnan Province, has served three prison terms and one labor camp term, totally nearly 11 years.
Ms. Wang Huizhen, 63, used to work at an advertisement company. She was first arrested on May 24, 2001, after being reported for photocopying information about Falun Gong. Her home was ransacked. After detaining her for 37 days, the police sent her to Yunnan Province Women’s Forced Labor Camp for two years.
After Ms. Wang was released early on August 18, 2002, her employer wouldn’t let her return to work and stopped making contributions to her pension fund. She was allotted only 700 yuan a month from then on.
Ms. Wang was arrested again on September 2, 2003, after being reported for distributing flyers about Falun Gong. She was held in Kunming City No.2 Detention Center and sentenced to four years at Yunnan Province No.2 Women’s Prison. She was released nine months early, on December 1, 2006.
Ms. Wang tried to return to work and have her pension payments reinstated, but she was turned down again.
She was arrested for a third time on April 22, 2008, also for passing out Falun Gong literature. She was sent to Yunnan Province No.2 Women’s Prison for another four years. The guards forced her to sit on a small stool daily for long hours for three straight months. Her legs swelled up, her buttocks festered, and her blood pressure went up. She was again released early, on June 2, 2011.
Only a year later, on May 5, 2012, Ms. Wang was arrested again and sentenced to three years by the Kunming City Intermediate Court.
Her latest arrest was on September 25, 2019. She was studying Falun Gong’s teachings with five other practitioners. Four of them in their 70s were released that evening. Ms. Wang and Mr. Zhang Liang were released the next day, she, because of excess abdominal fluid and he, to due high blood pressure.
