(Minghui.org) A woman in her late 80s has been detained incommunicado for nearly two months for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Yan Yixue, a Shihezi City, Xinjiang Province resident, was arrested prior to the Communist Party’s annual political meetings––the National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference––that were postponed from March to May 22, 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Her family has been kept in the dark of her whereabouts ever since.
Prior to her latest arrest, Ms. Yan was detained in a brainwashing center for a year between 2018 and 2019, where she was beaten and verbally abused by staff. As soon as she did the Falun Gong meditation exercises, the person who monitored her would ring a bell, and staff members would rush in with metal clubs in hand, drag her out, and beat her.
Wang Yongkang, Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee in Shihezi City, once slapped her in the face in front of other detainees.
The brainwashing center staff also restrained Ms. Yan in a metal chair for two weeks. She held a hunger strike in protest during this time.
