(Minghui.org) A Jilin City, Jilin Province resident was sentenced to three years for her faith in Falun Gong and has been sent to Jilin Province Women’s Prison in August 2020.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Su Mingying was arrested on January 30, 2016, while passing out informational materials about Falun Gong at a farmers market. The police interrogated her overnight and took her to the local detention center. As she was denied admission due to high blood pressure, the police took her back to the police station. They made another attempt to send her to the detention center the next day, but were turned away again. Ms. Su was then released on bail.
The police went to Ms. Su’s home on September 22, 2019 and asked whether she still practiced Falun Gong. As she refused to answer their question, the police arrested her.
The Chuanying District Court held a hearing on December 10, 2019. Her lawyer wasn’t allowed to represent her, because the judge deemed her as having a “bad attitude” of refusing to plead guilty or write a statement to renounce her faith. The judge also blocked her husband from attending her hearing, after finding out from scanning his ID that he was also on the government’s list of Falun Gong practitioners.
Ms. Su was later sentenced to three years. The Jilin City Detention Center informed her family on August 28, 2020 that she had been transferred to the Jilin Province Women’s Prison.
