(Minghui.org) An 81-year-old woman was sentenced to one year with two years probation and fined 2,000 yuan for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Lin Zuoying, a Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province resident, was arrested on July 9, 2019, with seven other elderly Falun Gong practitioners, after being suspected of using cellphone hotspots to spread information about Falun Gong.
Ms. Lin was tried by the Haizhu District Court on December 12, 2019. She denied that she knew how to use the hotspots. With her lawyer’s strong demand, the judge agreed to release her on bail on January 22, 2020, after six months of detention at Guangzhou City Detention Center. The judge announced her verdict on July 13, 2020.
Since the communist regime ordered the persecution of Falun Gong, Ms. Lin has been arrested multiple times for upholding her faith.
Prior to the Communist Party’s annual political meetings in March 2001, Ms. Lin was sent to the Tianhe District Brainwashing Center, as the authorities attempted to prevent her from spreading information about Falun Gong.
Ms. Lin was arrested again on February 21, 2003, for distributing materials about Falun Gong. She was detained for two weeks and then transferred to Tianhe District Brainwashing Center for further persecution.
She was arrested one more time on October 8, 2010, while distributing Falun Gong materials at South China University of Technology. She was held at Guangzhou City Brainwashing Center for a few months.
