(Minghui.org) After more than one year in detention, a Wuhan City, Hubei Province resident is facing trial on September 30, 2020 by the same court that sentenced her to five years in 2010, for her faith in Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Liang Xiangjiao, 56, took up Falun Gong in 2004. She credits the practice for curing her many ailments, including rheumatism, otitis media, and breast disease. She was full of energy and took on many household chores that she was unable to do before. Her two daughters also began to practice Falun Gong upon witnessing their mother's positive changes.
Because of sharing her story with people and raising awareness about the persecution of Falun Gong, Ms. Liang was arrested multiple times and incarcerated for a total of six years.
On July 21, 2006, Ms. Liang and her daughters were arrested after being reported for distributing Falun Gong materials. Although her daughters were released on the same day, she was sent to the Xiantao City No.1 Detention Center on July 22 and later given one year of forced labor.
She was arrested again on March 19, 2009 for talking to people about Falun Gong and detained for 15 days.
Only four months later, the police broke into her home and arrested her on July 15, 2009. Her home was ransacked. She was detained for one month at Wuhan City No.1 Detention Center, and then another month at the Chenjiaji Brainwashing Center, before being sent back to the Wuhan City No.1 Detention Center and held there for another month.
Ms. Liang was sentenced to five years in Wuhan Women’s Prison by the Hanyang District Court on July 14, 2010. The inmates were ordered by the guards to monitor her. They handcuffed her and didn’t allow her to sleep at night. At one time, the inmates immobilized her on the ground, held her neck and covered her mouth, after she shouted “Falun Dafa is good.”
Ms. Liang was arrested again on July 30, 2019. She has been detained at Wuhan City No.1 Detention Center since. She is scheduled to appear in the Hanyang District Court at 6 p.m. on September 30, 2020.
