(Minghui.org) A Tangshan City, Hebei Province, resident was sentenced to nine years on November 13, 2020 for practicing Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Sun Li was arrested on May 31, 2020 while visiting an elderly practitioner. He was detained at the Tangshan City No.1 Detention Center.
On June 2, two officers went to another practitioner’s home. They showed her several photos and asked her to identify Mr. Sun.
Before indicting Mr. Sun, the prosecutor from the Lubei District Procuratorate attempted to force him to sign a statement pleading guilty. Mr. Sun refused to comply.
Sun Li was tried by the Lubei District Court on November 13 and sentenced to nine years. He has appealed the verdict and is now awaiting the result at the detention center.
Prior to his latest prison term, Mr. Sun was given one year of forced labor in 2010 for raising awareness about the persecution of Falun Gong.
He was arrested again on May 7, 2017 after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. The Yutian County Court sentenced him to 14 months on January 24, 2018. His employer, the Tangshan Steel Group, also fired him.
