(Minghui.org) An 82-year-old woman in Yanji City, Jilin Province, was recently imprisoned to serve a renewed term for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. Her ordeal has been ongoing for over five years.
Ms. An Fuzi was arrested on March 3, 2016, while studying Falun Gong teachings at Mr. Wu Chunyan’s home. Mr. Wu’s Falun Gong books, informational materials, computer, audio-recorder, and media player were confiscated. A third Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. Zhu Xiyu, was also arrested.
The police put the three practitioners under house arrest for six months. On December 27, 2016, Ms. An and Ms. Zhu were summoned to the Yanji City Court and the judge dismissed their cases. Mr. Wu was also summoned, but he didn’t go due to poor health.
However, both Ms. An and Ms. Zhu were summoned by the Yanji City Court again on April 7, 2017. They went there, only to be sentenced to three and four years, respectively.
Ms. Zhu was taken to the Jilin Province Women’s Prison that same day. Ms. An was allowed to serve time at home due to her poor health. She appealed the verdict, but the higher court ruled to uphold the original sentence.
Mr. Wu struggled with tremendous mental distress over the police constant harassment following his arrest. He became bedridden in 2016 and passed away in June 2017.
After Ms. Zhu was released in 2020, she was arrested again in March 2021 and has been taken back to the Jilin Province Women’s Prison to serve an unknown term.
Ms. An was arrested again in late August 2021. The Yanji City Court renewed the three-year verdict against her. She was taken to the Jilin Province Women’s Prison in late September.
