(Minghui.org) A 79-year-old woman was recently sentenced to a nine-month prison term for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Ji Baozhen, of Fushun City, Liaoning Province, was arrested on March 12, 2020 for talking to people about Falun Gong near a middle school. Due to the pandemic, she was released on bail on the same day.
Officers from the Leifeng Police Station arrested Ms. Ji at home again on August 24, 2020 and released her in the evening.
The police later submitted her case to the Wanghua District Procuratorate. They arrested her a third time on September 2, 2020 and took her directly to the Nangou Detention Center.
Ms. Ji appeared in Wanghua District Court on September 10. The judge appointed a lawyer for her. She was charged with “undermining law enforcement with a cult organization,” the standard pretext used to frame Falun Gong practitioners.
Ms. Ji’s family recently learned that she has been sentenced to a nine-month prison term. She is still being held at the Nangou Detention Center.
