(Minghui.org) A woman in Songzi City, Hubei Province, who is being detained in a brainwashing center for practicing Falun Gong is on a hunger strike to protest the persecution.
Ms. Hu Jiqiong, also known as Hu Jiqin, in her 60s, was arrested on October 25, 2021. She is being held at the Songzi City Brainwashing Center, which is located in the former Songzi City Police Department.
In April 2021, Deng Liangui, the head of the Songzi City 610 Office (an extralegal agency created specifically to persecute Falun Gong), ordered local police and residential committee staff members to harass Ms. Hu and her family. Even the tenants renting her apartment weren’t spared.
In previous brainwashing sessions, Deng has ordered the police to beat detained practitioners for upholding their faith. He once said to a Falun Gong practitioner, “We don’t have to follow the law on Falun Gong. We are following our own rules at the 610 Office. You can go ahead and sue us. I’m curious to see which agency dares to accept your case.”
Since the Chinese communist regime began to persecute Falun Gong, an ancient spiritual discipline in 1999, Ms. Hu has been held in a brainwashing center three times. She also served two forced labor camp terms for a total of two years, spent three years in prison, and was fined 60,000 yuan. Her mother, Ms. Luo Guangquan, who also practiced Falun Gong, passed away in August 2005 after enduring years of harassment and intimidation.
