(Minghui.org) Two Shangshui County, Henan Province residents were imprisoned for their faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Yang Chunmei, a 57-year-old middle school teacher, was arrested in 2020 for telling her students how the communist regime covered up the coronavirus pandemic and how Falun Gong helps improve health.
One of her student’s parents reported her to the police. She was then arrested and held at the Zhoukou City Detention Center. She was later sentenced to six years and has been taken to the Xinxiang Women’s Prison.
This isn’t the first time that Ms. Yang has been targeted for her faith. She was previously arrested at work on November 12, 2015 and jailed at the Zhoukou City Detention Center.
Another practitioner, Mr. Deng Guoxing, in his 60s, was arrested in August 2019, after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong while buying steamed buns. He was held at the Shangshui Lockup for 15 days and then transferred to the Shangshui Detention Center. When he held a hunger strike to protest the persecution, the guards force fed him.
Mr. Deng was sentenced to five years in late 2020 and has been taken to Xinmi Prison in Zhengzhou City.
